When I registered for a free classic book I was hoping that I'd get something different that would push my boundaries.

When I was younger I used to carry "Inferno" around with me anywhere I'd go so I'd always have something to read. So I smiled when I saw I'd got ‘Dante in English’ (an anthology of English translations of passages from Dante) I'd be revisiting my old friend for a while.

There's a whole range of styles and ways of translating Dante on show here. Use rhyme, don’t use rhyme; use old language, don’t use old language; religiously stick to the text, be free with the text.

This book is an ideal way to get a broader sense of Dante's writing beyond the Commedia and to see how Dante has "influenced" generation after generation of authors.
